The challenge
Industry, construction, trade - customers all over the world rely on Kindlimann's steel products and solutions. As any downtime is extremely cost-intensive, customers must be able to rely on the reliable delivery of parts. The prerequisite for this is efficient and transparent stock management on the part of the supplier. This is why the steel service provider chose SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) with integrated SAP Material Flow Management (MFS).
The solution
As part of the construction of a new production and distribution centre, the introduction of a new warehouse management system was on Kindlimann's agenda at the same time. For the consulting and project partner CPRO conlog, this meant a fixed schedule. New automated high-bay and pallet storage systems had to be connected to SAP EWM and production had to be integrated into the SAP ERP/EWM system landscape. In addition, the incoming goods, cross-docking, production, internal processes and outgoing goods functions were implemented. The entire realisation phase took place during the coronavirus lockdown, which necessitated a switch to remote working.
The project's success
After the agreed 12-month project duration, Kindlimann was able to utilise a state-of-the-art and comprehensive warehouse management system. The direct integration of production and warehouse management ensures transparent and accelerated processes. The direct control of the automated trades in SAP EWM also contributes to this. Optimised storage and retrieval strategies and more efficient work at shop floor level also save time. In addition, customer-specific dialogues based on SAPUI5 offer the end user increased usability.
